Psych Engine is a modified HaxeFlixel engine developed by Shadow Mario and Riveren, intended to fix issues of the original engine while keeping its casual play aspect, and facilitate easier Friday Night Funkin' modding.

- Daddy Dearest's left animation is fixed, and is no longer a single frame.
- Adds stage lights that were unused in the base game to the background.
- "Dad Battle" uses a spotlight during a certain section, using an event aptly titled "Dadbattle Spotlight".

- Boyfriend and Skid & Pump use their "Hey!" animations, Skid & Pump using animations from the FLA that were unused in the base game.

- Typing "bbpanzu" on the title screen replaces Girlfriend with bbpanzu, sitting on a black couch with a plush of Demona.
- Typing "shadow" on the title screen replaces Girlfriend with Shadow Mario, sitting on a black Metal Box from Super Mario 64. This will make the Menu music mute, but it will come back after enter is pressed.
- Typing "river" on the title screen replaces Girlfriend with Riveren, sitting on a small television set. In 0.6.3 and older, she sat on a sideways Pepsi soda machine.
- Typing "pessy" on the title screen replaces Girlfriend with Pessy, Psych Engine's official mascot. It will also grant the "Engine Gal Pal" achievement.
- Typing the code of the character currently on the title screen replaces the current character with Girlfriend.
- Prior to 0.7.2, typing "shubs" on the title screen replaces Girlfriend with Yoshubs, sitting on an animal capsule from Sonic Mania. This easter egg was removed due to controversy surrounding them.[1]

The Notes section of the Options Menu allows customization of the player's note colors. The customization uses RGB colorization (Red, Green, Blue).
Controls[]
The Controls section of the Options Menu allows key rebinding for gameplay. Default controls are [A,S,W,D/Left, Down, Up, Right], and for the menu the default keys are [A,S,W,D/Left, Down, Up, Right], [R] (Reset), [P/Enter] (Pause/Accept), and [Esc/Backspace] (Back).

This state allow to change the combo position, but also the audio offset, to adjust with wireless audio sources or other.

- Contrary to popular belief, the first mod to use this engine was a joke mod called vs Daddico.
- The name of this engine is probably derived from the Mind Games mod created by shadowmario. The main opponent's name for this mod is Psychic.
- Many low-end users consider this engine the best due to its efficient optimization.
- This engine adds at least one change to every week.
- In the files, there is an extra file for Bopeebo labeled as "bopeebo-boobs.json" implying the existence of "boobs difficulty." The chart is identical to the hard chart.
- Before Week 7 was added onto Psych Engine, the achievement "God Effing Damn It!" used to be called "You'll Pay for That..."
